Matteo Goffriller
Goffriller 1710
An early Venetian cello with a warm, slow-burning tone.
A cello from 1710, built in the Venetian workshop of Matteo Goffriller. Teacher of Montagnana, founder of the Venetian school, and quite frankly the reason all of this exists.
Sound
Round and vocal, the way Goffrillers like to sing. The G string is generous and warm, the A floats. Together they make you want to play long phrases.
History
Joined the collection in 2015. These days it spends most of its time on baroque repertoire, dressed up in gut strings.
